Digital energy label

An energy label, but for the digital side of your building.

Everyone knows the energy label: from A to G you see at a glance how efficient a building is. For the digital quality of a building, there was no such label for a long time. Now there is the IT-Label. You can see it as a digital energy label: one code that shows how well a building is set up digitally.

With smart systems a building can rise on both labels. For example from energy label C to A, and from IT3 to IT1.

01. How it works

A level, just like the energy label.

Just like with the energy label, a building gets a level. For the IT-Label, that runs from IT1+ (Premium) to IT5 (Shell).

The level comes from on-site measurements by a certified partner. That makes the label independent and comparable between buildings.

02. Two labels, one building

They strengthen each other.

  • The energy label shows how much energy a building uses. It is mandatory. In the Netherlands, offices must have at least label C.
  • The IT-Label shows how good the digital foundation is. It is voluntary.

A building with a good digital foundation can use smart systems that save energy. Think of climate control that adapts to occupancy, or meters that show per floor where the energy goes. That helps to bring energy use down.

03. What it gives you

Clarity, a plan and reliable data.

  • Clarity when letting and selling: tenants and buyers see straight away what they get.
  • A plan for sustainability: you see which digital steps are needed before smart systems really work.
  • Reliable data: for the Dutch energy saving obligation, ESG reporting and questions from banks or investors.

Frequently asked questions

Good to know.

Is the IT-Label an official energy label?

No. The energy label is about energy use and is regulated by law. The IT-Label is about digital quality and is voluntary. The comparison helps to understand how it works.

Does IT Label Specialist also issue energy labels?

No. We do not issue energy labels. We carry out IT-Label audits, with attention for smart systems and energy saving.

Will a higher IT-Label give me a better energy label?

Not automatically. But a good digital foundation makes it easier to add smart controls. These can help to lower energy use.
