ESG and regulation

Rules are getting stricter. Data is becoming essential.

Energy labels, saving obligations, building automation, ESG reports. More and more rules ask for measured data. That data comes from smart systems, and they need a good digital foundation.

01. Rules for buildings

What applies, and what is coming.

Label C requirement for offices

In the Netherlands, office buildings have had to meet at least energy label C since 1 January 2023. There are exceptions, for example for small offices and listed buildings.

Smart control can help to improve or keep the label.

Energy saving obligation and reporting duty

Dutch companies and institutions that use a lot of energy must take measures that pay for themselves within five years. Every four years they report which measures they have taken.

Smart meters and a building management system show what has been done, and what it delivers.

Mandatory building automation system

In the Netherlands, commercial buildings with a large heating or cooling installation (more than 290 kW) must have a building automation system (BACS). Europe is lowering that threshold in the coming years.

Such a system needs a reliable and secure network. That is part of the IT-Label.

European buildings directive (EPBD)

Europe is tightening the requirements for buildings step by step. Stricter rules are coming for the least efficient commercial buildings, with more attention for smart systems and the Smart Readiness Indicator.

If you invest in a good digital foundation now, you can adapt faster later.

Status: October 2026. This is a simplified overview of Dutch and European rules, not legal advice. For the exact rules and exceptions, see the Netherlands Enterprise Agency at english.rvo.nl.

MeasureReportImprove

Sustainability reporting is easier when your building supplies the data itself. Automatically, reliably and per installation.

02. ESG reporting

What investors and banks want to know.

For investors, banks and large tenants it is not only about the rules. They also want to show how sustainable their real estate is. For that they use these frameworks, among others.

CSRD

Large companies report on sustainability, including the energy use of their buildings. In 2025 Europe narrowed down which companies must report.

EU Taxonomy

A European framework that defines when an investment counts as sustainable. For buildings, the energy label plays a major role.

GRESB

A benchmark that real estate investors use to compare the sustainability of their portfolios. Measured data carries a lot of weight.

03. What we do

Ready for the data you are asked for.

We check whether your building can supply the data you need. Are there smart meters? Does the data come in centrally? Is the network reliable and secure? And what is needed to get it in order?
