Occupancy sensor: what is it?

An occupancy sensor detects whether someone is in a room or at a desk, so heating, cooling and lighting can adapt.

An occupancy sensor detects whether a room or desk is in use. It can do this with movement, heat or other techniques. The sensor sends that information to other systems.

This way the climate control can put an empty room into energy saving mode, and the lights can switch off when nobody is there. Occupancy sensors are one of the simplest ways to save energy in an office. Also read why an empty meeting room costs so much energy.
