EU Taxonomy: what is it?

The EU Taxonomy is a European classification that defines when an investment counts as sustainable. For buildings, the energy label matters most.

The EU Taxonomy is a European set of rules that defines when an economic activity or investment counts as sustainable. For buying buildings, the energy label plays a major role: for existing buildings, for example, label A applies, or a place among the most efficient 15 per cent of the market. Investors and banks use the taxonomy in their reports.
