Building automation system (BACS): what is it?

A building automation system automatically controls heating, cooling, ventilation and lighting, and monitors energy use.

A building automation system controls the installations in a building automatically. It adjusts heating, cooling, ventilation and lighting to time, occupancy and weather. It also monitors energy use and reports anything unusual.

In the Netherlands, a building automation system is mandatory for larger commercial buildings with installations of more than 290 kW. Read more in our article on building automation.

Such a system needs a reliable and secure network. See also building management system and BACS.
